BBB: Eager shoppers should use caution at American liquidation sale

MILWAUKEE -- The Better Business Bureau has a word of caution for bargain hunters planning to stop by the American TV liquidation sale.

American announced that all of its stores would be closing its doors for good after 60 years of business.

A liquidation sale to clear the company's inventory starts Thursday, but BBB officials are telling shoppers, \"not so fast\".

Liquidation sales are often handled by third parties and consumers should pay attention to inflated prices skewing their discounts, the BBS says.

Shoppers are also advised to use gift cards as soon as possible and to use credit cards for purchases since they have more protection than personal checks and cash.

Don't be afraid to ask a lot of questions to understand the warranty.

Liquidations are typically \"as is\" sales with no return policy but warranties are often serviced by a manufacturer or third party. This means the warranty may still apply, even if the retailer goes out of business.

And finally, the BBB says don't be afraid to ask haggle or ask for a better price.
