Badgers drop Big Ten opener at Kohl Center

The Badgers lost at home for the fourth time on the young season, a 61-55 loss to Purdue in Wisconsin's Big Ten opener Tuesday night.

Nigel Hayes scored 17 points and added seven rebounds, and Alex Illikainen added 10 points off the bench, but the rest of the Badgers struggled to put up points in this one. UW hit just 5-of-17 three point attempts, and sank just 6-of-8 free throws on the night.

Wisconsin has already lost to Western Illinois, Milwaukee and Marquette at home this season. The Badgers fall to 8-6 on the campaign and suffer their first loss since Greg Gard took over for Bo Ryan after the longtime coach's sudden retirement.
