Aurora Health Care begins providing free Narcan in all emergency departments

WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- In an effort to reduce overdose deaths, Aurora Health Care is announcing they will now have free doses of Naloxone, better known by the brand name Narcan, in all its emergency rooms.

The new policy started Monday, June 5, and it follows rising numbers of deaths from opioid overdoses in Wisconsin.

When a patient is brought to Aurora for an overdose, they'll be treated and given Naloxone to take home.

“Opioid use disorder is a chronic medical condition and doesn’t have to end in death,” said Dr. Diana Bottari, chairwoman of Aurora Health Care’s Opioid Stewardship Committee and addiction medicine physician. “We are happy to provide naloxone and additional resources to give people a second chance at life.”
