WASHINGTON (CBS 58) – A Wisconsin police officer is honored with the Medal of Valor at the White House.
President Donald Trump was at the ceremony to make the presentation.
Officer Andrew Hopfensberger works for the Antigo Police Department. In April 2016, he stepped in to stop what could have been a mass shooting at the city’s high school.
"During the school's junior prom, when he heard a burst of gunfire, within 19 seconds he found the shooter and took him down, just before he was about to kill four innocent students. Andrew, incredible job, thank you very much," President Trump said during Tuesday's ceremony.
The Medal of Valor is the highest national honor given to public safety officers for braver. It’s comparable to the military’s Medal of Honor.
