Amani Place awarded $10,000 grant from Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley's small business program
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Black History Month is about more than just history, and we saw that Thursday, Feb. 12, on Milwaukee's west side.
That's where a new black-owned small business is getting a financial boost from Milwaukee County.
The Amani Place is an intimate event venue for meetings, workshops, parties and more at 35th and St. Paul.
The owner, Braina Redmond, was awarded a $10,000 grant from Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley through his 'Building Bridges' program.
"Our focus is to focus on the innovation and creativity of our small businesses, of our entrepreneurs and figure out how we can build their capacity so they can continue to grow," said Crowley.
Redmond told CBS 58 that the money has helped her, a small business owner, to make her venue more accessible and more attractive to customers.
"It's hard out there," said Redmond. "I know a number of entrepreneurs that are really, you know, putting their boots on the ground and getting things in order and just that extra boost really helps with getting to the finish line."
Thursday's visit by Crowley was promoted as part of the continuing celebration of Black History Month.
