Alderman Joe Davis to host safety meeting with Midtown neighborhood

Alderman Joe Davis Sr. is hosting an emergency community meeting Wednesday to address crime in the Midtown shopping area after a woman was robbed in a grocery store parking lot.

Davis described a recent robbery in the meeting announcement, where teen thieves pointed a gun at a woman around 6:30 p.m. on January 13 in the Pick N' Save parking lot near 60th and Capitol. The robbers took the woman's purse as she loaded groceries into her car.

Milwaukee police responded to the victim's 911 call, only to find that the lighting in the parking lot was not bright enough for security cameras. In addition, the grocery store's security cameras were reportedly out of focus and investigators were unable to use any of the footage.

Representatives from the MPD District 7 and the owners of Midtown Shopping center will join Davis at the meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m. at Marshall/Morse High School, 4141 N. 64th Street. The public is invited to attend as questions about security at the shopping center are answered.
