WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- We Energies has a warning ahead of Valentine's Day.
The utility company says love might be in the air this week, but balloons should not be.
We Energies says since 2020, more than 100,000 customers have dealt with power outages caused by rogue Mylar balloons.
Mylar balloons that come into contact with power lines act as a conductor, creating a short circuit. They can not only knock out power but could cause power lines to fall to the ground.
The company is asking you to keep hold of balloons, never release them outside and keep them away from power lines.
