Activists file federal lawsuit against Ridglan Farms, Dane County officials

CBS 58

DANE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A federal lawsuit has been filed against a Dane County dog breeding and research facility, along with local leaders and law enforcement.

Two protesters claim deputies used excessive force during a large April 18 demonstration at Ridglan Farms.

About 1,000 activists gathered for what they called a mass rescue of beagles.

The lawsuit also accuses the facility of animal abuse.

The sheriff's office says arrests were made for trespassing and other crimes, while Ridglan Farms calls the protest a "coordinated, violent assault."

We reached out to both but have not yet heard back.
