SOMERS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A scare for one family at a trunk-or-treat event in Somers over the weekend. Panic set in as their 3-year-old began choking on candy. A teenager they had never met before saved the day.

Day one of practice for Kenosha Lutheran Academy. They've got a new player -- Soleil Roberson's new to the school.

"It's really fun, like once you get to know people it's really fun," said Soleil Roberson, Kenosha Lutheran Academy (KLA) student.

The 8th grader was getting to know people from KLA with her family's highly decorated trunk at a trunk-or-treat event Saturday.

Soleil had just finished taking her younger siblings from trunk to trunk in the Somers parking lot when she saw something she couldn't ignore.

This is a photo of Thalia Bergemann from the event that started at 3 p.m.

"She's so full of life, and she, you know, she twirls -- every time she's excited about something, she twirls," said Scott Bergemann, New Life Church pastor and Thalia's dad.

Around 4:30, Thalia started choking on candy.

"I could see that her mom had like fear in her eyes," said Roberson.

"I ran over to her and kind of like tried to bend her over and started yelling at her to spit it out, and all that was coming out was chocolate spit," said Amanda Bergemann, Thalia's mom.

The typically talkative Thalia couldn't speak. She remembers it even now.

"Was it hard to breathe when it was in your mouth?" "Yeah," said Thalia Bergemann, to her mom.

"Everybody kind of froze and panicked," said Amanda Bergemann.

Everyone except Soleil Roberson, who walked up to a family she never met, put her hands in the child's mouth and pulled out a tootsie roll.

"After Thalia was okay, I gave her to my husband and said, 'I just need a minute,' and I walked away and had my sob fest about how it could've been, how it could've turned out, because I didn't realize how bad it was," said Amanda Bergemann.

Roberson's the oldest of six kids. Years ago, mom taught her how to save someone from choking.

"Proud, that's all I can say," said Keoni Roberson, Soleil's dad. "Once we saw that, she gave tears to me and my wife, that she's growing up to be a young woman to save other people's lives."

"God definitely puts angels on Earth in the right places, and Soleil is definitely Thalia's guardian angel," said Amanda Bergemann.

"What do you say to Solei for helping you?" said Amanda Bergemann. "Thanks, Soleil," said Thalia.
