70-year-old hits attempted mugger with pepper spray, police say
MADISON, Wis. -- (WISC) A 70-year-old woman fended off an attempted robber by hitting him with pepper spray Wednesday night on Madison’s north side, according to a release.
Police said the woman was walking home from the 3500 block of Packers Avenue just before 6 p.m. when someone approached her from behind and tugged on her bag.
The woman turned around and hit the person with pepper spray, according to the release.
The person ran to a vehicle and left the area, police said. Nothing was taken from the woman.
The woman believed the attempted robber was a man but was not able to provide any additional description of him or the vehicle.
