7-Year-Old Cancer Patient Wants Birthday Cards

(WILX/CNN) - Ask a kid what they want for their birthday and chances are they'll choose a toy or gadget.

But a young cancer patient in Michigan just wants birthday cards.

Olivia Enderle, 7, is a survivor.

She was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma cancer at 13 months old.

"She was life flighted from Sparrow  to U of M  and spent 282 days at U of M, she did 8 rounds of chemo,"  said her mother, Emily Enderle.

She said Olivia  had many setbacks and at times she wasn’t sure Olivia would make it.

"At one point they actually said to take her home and just enjoy her because she has only a month or two left We said no she is not done and we kept fighting," Enderle said.

The cancer even took both of Olivia’s kidneys, which led to a transplant in June of 2016.

"Her aunt gave her her kidney and there was a less than 2 percent chance that the kidney would work," Enderle said.

Olivia survived and continued  to beat the odds.

Reaching another milestone, she’ll turn 8 on her birthday, March 26.

For Olivia, her only birthday wish is to receive more birthday cards.

She hopes to reach 100.  Her mother said she loves cards.

"She loves to get mail and that's like her favorite thing," Enderle said.

Her mom is just thankful that her daughter will see another year.

"I think that this year we have a lot to celebrate. This is her whole new life. This is her new year,"  Enderle said.
