40-year-old Milwaukee man charged for robbery and attempted robbery of financial institutions
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - A 40-year-old Milwaukee man has been charged after allegedly robbing a bank and attempting to rob a check cashing institution.
Keith Myers was arrested for two counts, attempted robbery of a financial institution, and robbery of a financial institution.
According to the criminal complaint, an individual reported that someone attempted to rob her at the PLS Check Cashing financial institution at N Teutonia on Thursday, Nov. 9. She was working when someone walked up to her and handed her the note, she said.
According to the complaint, the note said, “I have a bomb, give me all the money you got, no dye packs, no tracers."
The individual that was working asked, "Are you serious?"
“Yeah, don’t try nothing funny and give me the note back," the person replied.
The worker kept the note and pressed the button underneath the service counter, and the person ran out of the establishment. Prosecutors say the worker gave the note to officers after the robbery. The note was analyzed, and the fingerprints on the note were found to be Keith Myers'.
On Friday, Nov. 10, US Bank, located on W Wisconsin Ave, reported that a subject, later identified as Myers, robbed the bank.
The personnel reported that Myers displayed a demand note to the bank teller. The note stated, “I have a bomb, give me the money now," according to prosecutors.
The bank employee handed over $3,162.00. The money contained a GPS tracking device.
The defendant left the store with cash, and the bank employee engaged a silent alarm, alerting police to the robbery.
Five minutes after the robbery, police say they found Myers in an alley, where the tracking device was pinging.
According to the complaint, Myers gave police a different name when asked. He claimed to be picking up trash in the area.
Myers was arrested after a brief resisting episode. He was found to have a plastic bag with the $3,162.00 as well as the GPS tracking device.
A jacket with the demand note was found in a garbage can near where he was arrested, according to the criminal complaint.
Myers has a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
