3 dead, 1 injured following fiery car crash in Dane County

MIDDLETON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Three people are dead following a fiery car crash in the Town of Middleton on Saturday, Oct. 2.

Dane County Sheriff's Office deputies, Middleton Fire and EMS, and Madison Fire were dispatched to the crash on West Mineral Point Road and Karls Court around 10:15 p.m.

Officials say a preliminary investigation indicates a car driving eastbound on Mineral Point struck another vehicle in the rear end, sending the struck vehicle into a farm field. The vehicle in the farm field became fully engulfed with fire.

The three occupants of the vehicle in the field were pronounced dead at the scene. 

The other vehicle ended up in a ditch. The driver and sole occupant of that vehicle was taken to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Mineral Point road was closed for nearly seven hours.
