20-Year-old man charged with murder in Bayside robbery case

BAYSIDE -- 20-year-old Tedric Sanders is charged with felony murder after he allegedly took part in the robbery of Innovative Optique in Bayside on August 14. 22-year-old Joshua Drake of Milwaukee was killed during this daytime armed robbery.

According to the criminal complaint, Sanders, Drake and two other men arrived at Innovative Optique around 12:30 p.m. The group was riding in a Silver Dodge Charger. The store's owner had his brother take down the license plate of the Charger. Witnesses say two masked men entered the store.

The criminal complaint says the brother of the owner opened fire on the masked men when one of them went to the back to the store to retrieve money. One of the robbers, Joshua Drake, was shot and and killed. Sanders attempted to enter the store once he heard gunshots, but quickly left once bullets were being shot at him.

The fourth person who stayed in the car says Sanders returned to the car with a gunshot wound on his head. Sanders allegedly drove the Charger away from Innovative Optique to Sinai Samaritan Hospital near 12th and State. That's where Sanders was arrested by police.

A hit and run on I-43 south was reported to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office shortly after the armed robbery of Innovative Optique.

Court records say Sanders was due in court on August 14 for bail jumping charges related to a robbery he allegedly committed at an eyewear store in Wauwatosa.

Bail for Sanders has been set at $50,000. If convicted of the murder charge, Sanders could face up to 35 years in prison.
