$20 million economic impact expected as U.S. Women’s Open comes to Erin Hills
TOWN OF ERIN, Wis. – Ahead of the first day of play for the 80th U.S. Women’s Open coming to Erin Hills Golf Course, the excitement is building for people in the area expecting an economic boom.
Allison Burns, the senior director of the U.S Women’s Open, says the organization is expecting a $20 million economic impact as the tournament comes to the area within the Hartford ZIP code.
“The best female golfers in the entire world are here,” Burns said. “We have been working on this for about three years, and it’s finally happening, so we are just checking the boxes at this point and are excited to see how tomorrow goes.”
Burns said she is expecting around 50,000 people to make their way to the course and the surrounding area.
Briana Greer, the chef concierge at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, says they are prepared for people to make their way into the larger city as part of their itinerary.
“It’s another opportunity to show Wisconsin,” Briana Greer said.
Kate Carroll, the executive director of the Hartford Area Chamber of Commerce, says she’s thrilled an event of this size is coming to her area.
“There’s been some big strides in our area over the last couple of decades in Hartford,” Carrol said. “To know the U.S Women’s Open is happening right in our backyard is a lot to be said.”
