2-year-old girl who went missing from Rice Lake home dies after being found in river

RICE LAKE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 2-year-old girl who went missing from her Rice Lake home has died after being found unresponsive in the Red Cedar River.

The Rice Lake Police Department was called to a home near Hatten and Hartel around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday for a report of a missing child. The person who called 911 reported that the front door was open and the child may have been missing for up to 30 minutes.

Officers responded to the scene and began searching.

At 10:55 p.m. on Sunday, an officer using a thermal imaging tool located the child unresponsive in the Red Cedar River.

She was quickly rushed to a nearby ambulance and taken to a local hospital where lifesaving attempts were unsuccessful.
