18-year-old Milwaukee man charged in deadly Water Street shooting

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- An 18-year-old man was arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that happened in downtown Milwaukee on March 22. 

The accused is Deonta Harmon. 

The shooting happened near Water and Knapp. Twenty-two-year-old Dylan Jackson was killed. Two others were shot but survived. 

According to a criminal complaint, an officer who responded to the scene located six spent 9mm casings. Authorities determined the casings were all discharged from the same weapon.

Police obtained surveillance video that showed the shooting, per the complaint, and interviewed the two other men who were shot. The video reportedly shows a group of men gathering near a median on Water Street before walking away from each other and one of the men is seen firing shots into a crowd of people. The gunman is then seen running from the scene. 

One victim told investigators, according to the complaint, he observed someone try and grab the gunman's chain off his neck and that's why he started shooting. 

March 24, authorities located Harmon at his mother's house where he was arrested. According to the complaint, investigators searched the residence and located a black 9mm handgun which matched the casings found at the scene of the shooting. 

Harmon has been charged with the following: 

  • First degree reckless homicide
  • First degree reckless injury (two counts)
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon
