11-month-old Survives Nearly 4 Hours in Hot Car

MADISON, Wis. (CHANNEL 3000) -

An 11-month-old boy survived nearly four hours in a hot car on Madison’s east side, according to a release from Madison police.

Officers were called at 11:54 a.m. to the 300 block of North Walbridge Avenue regarding a boy left inside a car for nearly four hours.

Police and firefighters got the boy out of the vehicle and the child is expected to recover. The child was smiling and giggling before officers left the hospital.

Lt. Mike Hanson told News 3 a father had left his boy in the car. The father was supposed to drop his son off at daycare. The boy was found in the father's car at his work.

Police said the father was distraught when he realized he left his son in the car.

Hanson said no charges will be filed.

Officials urge parents and caretakers to set up a system of checks and balances for picking up and dropping off children. Vehicles can heat up quickly when the windows and doors are closed.
