1 killed, 1 hurt in Sheboygan County crash involving squad car

SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating a deadly crash in Sheboygan County involving a City of Plymouth police officer.

The crash happened around 3:00 p.m. Monday at the intersection of State Highway 57 and County Road N near the Town of Lyndon.

Investigators say that 77-year-old Dennis Teetzen pulled out in front of Officer Lindsay Baumhardt's squad car causing the crash. The Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office says Officer Baumhardt was not driving in emergency mode and was not responding to a call at the time of the crash.

Teetzen died from his injuries. The 35-year-old officer was taken to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

In a Facebook post, the Plymouth Police Department said the following:

"First, thank you to everyone who has reached out to us. We are always overwhelmed by the support our wonderful community brings us. Our officer is doing well, and is on the road to recovery. Just as importantly, our thoughts and prayers go out to the Teetzen family during this terribly trying time. Know that we are here for you in your time of need. No one prepares us for the loss of a loved one. It comes swiftly and leaves us numb. We cannot even begin to understand what your family is going through. May God give you comfort and peace."
