16-year-old killed in Kenosha shooting, 2 others injured
KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 16-year-old boy is dead, and two others are injured after a shooting in Kenosha.
Family members identified the teen killed as Isiah Cooper, a student in the Kenosha Unified School District.
Police were called to 6th Ave. and 60th St. shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday. When officers arrived, Cooper and a 19-year-old had been shot. A 15-year-old also had a head injury.
“That close, happened in that proximity, it’s a little scary,” said Angelina Thomas, who lives in the area. “It’s just, you know, they’re kids, you know. I just learned that they were as young as 16. They’re high school kids and knowing that they went to local high schools here in Kenosha, I’m just kind of thinking about their families now.”
In a GoFundMe page created after the shooting, family members of Cooper say they “want justice more than anything” for the Bradford High School student killed.
“A bunch of cops. There was a big mobile command unit right here. And everything was taped off from my apartment building all the way down to the street,” Thomas said.
Police say Cooper died at the scene. The other two teens were taken to a hospital.
“That’s their baby. That’s their kid,” Thomas said.
Kenosha police confirmed they have arrested two people in connection to the shooting, ages 16 and 19.
Nearby residents say they’re thinking about Cooper’s family as well as the families of those injured.
“I’m just praying for the families, honestly. I feel really bad and it sucks that they’re just small kids,” Thomas said.
The Kenosha Unified School District says the other two students attend Indian Trail High School. There was an additional police presence at both schools Thursday, but police say there is no threat to the public.
