1 dead in head-on crash involving school bus, pickup truck in Cedarburg

CEDARBURG, Wis. (CBS 58) -- One person is dead after a head-on crash involving a school bus and pickup truck in Ozaukee County Thursday, Feb. 5. 

Officials say the crash happened just after 1:15 p.m. on County Highway I, north of Cedar Creek Road, in Cedarburg. 

According to the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office, an investigation revealed a Dodge Ram pickup truck -- driven by a 57-year-old West Bend man -- was traveling southbound on County Highway I when it began to drift over the centerline. 

The pickup truck crossed into the northbound lane and struck a school bus head-on. 

The Riteway school bus was occupied by only the driver, a 71-year-old from Saukville. They suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital. 

The driver of the truck was pinned inside the vehicle and required extrication. Despite lifesaving efforts, the 57-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Assisting at the scene were the Ozaukee County Highway Department, Cedarburg Fire Department, Ozaukee Central Fire Department, Cedarburg Police Department, Saukville Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Ozaukee County Emergency Management, Ozaukee Crash Reconstruction Team, and Ozaukee County Drone Team.
