WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Slenderman case was back in Waukesha County court Thursday. Morgan Geyser, one of two women who were sent to a mental health facility after the 2014 stabbing of their 6th grade classmate, is seeking release.
Geyser is now 21 years old. She appeared in court Thursday afternoon asking a judge to order a conditional release from a state mental institution where she has been receiving treatment.
This comes more than eight years after prosecutors say Geyser and Anissa Weier, then just 12 years old, lured their classmate to a Waukesha park and stabbed her nearly 20 times.
Both Geyser and Weier said they did it to please a fictional character named Slenderman. They were found not guilty of attempted homicide because of mental illness and sent to a state institution for treatment.
For a judge to consider a release now, Geyser needs to be evaluated by doctors. During Thursday's hearing, the judge appointed three doctors chosen by each side and the court.
The evaluations will need to be completed by August before the next hearing.
Geyser's co-defendant, Anissa Weier, was ordered to be released from the mental health facility last year.
Geyser's attorney said it's too soon to forecast if his client will have the same outcome.
