WisDOT: 54-hour freeway closure of I-41/US 45 postponed due to threat of storms

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Zoo Interchange North Leg project closure of I-41/US 45 between Watertown Plank Road and Burleigh has been postponed due to weather.

Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced the update Thursday, July 14.

The plan was to close the area for 54 hours Friday night, July 15 until Monday morning, July 18, to allow the placement of new Union Pacific Railroad bridge beams. Additional work was also scheduled to be done.

"There's not a lot of margin for us to be able to make up any time with the work, and if there is a high probability of thunderstorms it's going to be in everybody's best interest as far as safety goes to have to reschedule that," said Michael Pyritz, with the Wisconsin DOT.

The tentative plan is to reschedule the closure for next weekend.
