MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It's Cyber Monday, so before anyone does too much online shopping, we were joined early Monday, Dec. 1 by Lisa Schiller, senior director of investigations and media relations for the Better Business Bureau. She talked about safe online shopping tips for Cyber Monday.
Schiller recommended checking web addresses and contact information carefully to spot fake websites that mimic popular stores. Shoppers should verify businesses through BBB.org and only purchase from secure sites with addresses beginning with "HTTPS."
Use credit cards for fraud protection rather than wire transfers or prepaid debit cards. Read return policies before purchasing, as they may change for Cyber Monday offers.
Watch for phishing scams through unsolicited emails or texts claiming delivery problems. Avoid clicking suspicious links or sharing personal information.
