WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) – A flood warning is in effect in Waukesha until Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the Fox River is in a minor flooding stage. The city closed off the riverwalk to the public as water was covering the sidewalks and stairs.
As of Friday morning, the river level was 6.4 ft. The NWS reports that on any given year, the Fox River has about a 50% chance of reaching 6 ft.
While it was not a major flood, Waukesha residents could not help but stop by to see the water and waves covering the riverwalk on Thursday.
"It's pretty interesting because sometimes, in the real hot summers, it's hardly anything happening, and then when you get all this rain, and you just see how high it gets where people normally walk, and now they can't walk because it'd probably be up to their waist or higher," Richard Schlaack said.
The river is expected to get below flood stage early Saturday, falling to about 5 ft.
