MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Hundreds of people spent the day volunteering in honor of MLK Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 20. For the 15th year, City Year and Milwaukee Public Schools came together for the annual MLK Jr. Day of Service. This year, nearly 50 murals were painted at Siefert Elementary School. From portraits to book characters, volunteers added color to the walls of the school.
"All last week, we traced the murals. So today, we're finally going to put paint to walls," said Alejandro Huerta.
Huerta is a member of the Herb Kohl Philanthropies team at Siefert. He, and hundreds of other volunteers, hope to keep Dr. King's legacy alive by pouring into the community.
"I can do my best to educate them and be a good role model for them and then we'll see what their future holds," said Huerta.
If you're interested in volunteering for the MLK Jr. Day of Service in 2026, you can do so HERE when it becomes available.
