Friday is the busiest travel day of the holiday weekend and travel is expected to be the highest it's been in more than a decade. That's according to AAA.
The group says nearly 40 million people will travel 50 miles or more away from home this Memorial Day weekend.
That is one million more travelers than last year and the highest Memorial Day travel volume since 2005.
In Wisconsin, AAA projects over 800 thousand families will travel, 2.5% higher than last year.
We saw dozens of people filling up at the pump, getting ready to hit the road, which they say is already backed up with traffic.
"It's getting up there. The traffic is really getting up there. It's something that we expect because everyone is going to get out trying to get with their families so we're expecting a traffic jam," said traveler Omar Burton.
The Wisconsin DOT says they have suspended work on all of their construction projects this weekend which should make for an easier drive for travelers.
