'There's more work to do': Milwaukee County executive addresses expanding housing access for working families
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As fair housing continues, local leaders are continuing to address the housing crisis we face in Milwaukee County, and that includes County Executive David Crowley.
On Monday, April 20, Crowley hosted a roundtable discussion to talk about the successes so far in his administration's push for affordable housing, along with what more can be done.
The Hope House of Milwaukee and Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity were just a couple of the organizations represented at the roundtable.
Crowley says the push for affordable housing is more complex than many people might realize and the crisis impacts all kinds of people across our hometowns.
"My hope is that after this conversation we not only identify the challenges that persist but the opportunities moving forward, so it is our goal to continue to bring on more affordable housing options, whether that's rental units for our seniors, for people with disabilities, or working families, or it's that first-time homeowner that's looking to buy their very first home. So, there's more work to do, but this is the start of a great conversation," said Crowley.
Just last week, Crowley announced the development of an affordable housing subdivision in Oak Creek, the first of its kind in Milwaukee County.
