Staged "die-in" leads to brief lockdown at Mayfair Mall

Protestors staged a peaceful \"die-in\" at Mayfair Mall Tuesday afternoon, leading to a temporary lockdown of the anchor stores and several stores inside the mall.

A group of about 50 people took to the center of the mall around 4:30 p.m. and began the demonstration by singing \"Silent Night\" before reading a statement, chanting, and lying down on the floor. The protest was led in opposition to Monday's announcement that former Milwaukee Police Officer Christopher Manney will not face criminal charges in the fatal shooting of Dontre Hamilton in Red Arrow Park.

Some shoppers cheered while others grumbled. The mall was briefly locked down and shoppers could only access anchor stores from outside entrances.

The protest wrapped up just before 5 p.m. and participants left the mall without incident.

No injuries were reported.
