Sierra Guyton's mother says "she's still fighting!"

MILWAUKEE-On Wednesday night CBS 58's Sachelle Saunders talked exclusively with the mother of 10 year old Sierra Guyton, the girl wounded in a playground shooting last month.

The mother was too distraught to go on camera but told Sachelle that \"she's still fighting.\"

There are two major fundraisers planned this weekend for Guyton who remains on a ventilator after she was struck in the back of the head while two men shot at each other near 28th and Clarke.

The lead detective in the case says she suffered permanent brain damage.

Guyton's mother said that the support from the community was helping them get through the painful struggle of deciding on Sierra's long term care.

\"The money, or just the word of support are more than helpful,\" the mother said.

The first fundraiser is Friday, June 13th 6-8 p.m. at the Redemption Fellowship Church located at 3500 N. 26th Street.

It's being organized by the church and the group Girls in Action of which Sierra is a member.

13 year old Erica Lofton is one of the leading organizers of the event that will feature family activities and spiritual musical performances.

She hopes not only to raise money for the family's medical expenses, but also inspire the community to help her make the streets safer for children.

\"I just thought it was crazy,\" Lofton said of the playground shooting. \"Because that could have happened to me. That could have happened to any other of my relatives, my little sister, another friend.\"

The second fundraiser will be Saturday, June 14th 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Evergreen Baptist Church at 1138 West Center Street.

Baby Back Willie will be preparing chicken and rib dinners for $10 each.

Pastor Turner is a close friend of the family's and is helping organizing the barbecue.

We've learned that the family woud also like to use some of the money raised to move out of the neighborhood where they no longer feel safe.
