Residents are vocal about double decker highway project

The Department of Transportation has nearly completed its study for a double decker highway project. It's for a 3.5 mile stretch of I-94 between Marquette and the stadium.

There has been a lot of opposition to the project, including at Tuesday's meeting. The main issues come down to money and taxes. The double decker highway project is slated to cost 1.1 billion dollars. It would be a mix of federal and state taxes. The rest of the project would be funded with borrowed money.

Lawmakers say the last budget borrowed $994,000,000 for highway projects. Another point of contention is that some businesses and jobs would be displaced.

The DOT will hold several public meetings before the project moves forward.
