Police seek leads after Germantown Speedway victim of 'cash button' gift card scam
GERMANTOWN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Germantown police are investigating after the Speedway located on County Line Road, west of I-41, was the victim of a "cash button" gift card scam.
According to police, two Black male suspects -- described to be in their late teens, early 20s -- entered the store and conducted 28 transactions at $890 -- purchasing Netspend Visa Cards totaling $24,920. Officials say the suspects placed a card in the reader and convinced the clerk it was a cash currency card and she needed to press the cash button.
Following the scam, police say the suspects rented two hotel rooms nearby under the name, "Vanessa Johnson."
Police say the suspects may be driving a four-door white vehicle with unknown registration.
