New Berlin Salon Owner is Extending Breast Cancer Awareness Through Her Own Story of Survival

October being breast cancer awareness month, and Dawn Panfil, owner of Hair and Body Solutions, is offering a powerful message on how one person can inspire so many.

She had her treatment 9 years ago, and afterward through her salon started a campaign with Aurora Health Care to raise awareness and dollars to fight cancer. It’s called Pink Possible, and throughout the month, at her salon and others, women can go and get an extension put into their hair for about $20 and the money  goes to fight cancer.

One out of eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

In 2015, roughly 1/3 of women in Wisconsin diagnosed with breast cancer chose Aurora Cancer Care as the place to receive care.

Pink Possible is the annual cause-related fundraising effort to help raise awareness and dollars for breast cancer patients and their families to support education, prevention, research and survivorship programs in the state.

Over  the last eight years, the campaign has raised more than $360,000.

It’s a very grassroots-based program, where salons throughout the area will offer pink extensions to clients for a small fee, and all dollars collected to the fund.

Many other local businesses and individuals kick in their support with donation and sponsorship of local events.

Partners and survivors like Dawn are the true champions of this campaign. Dawn’s team alone has helped to raise more than $80,000 over the last eight years through her salon and events.
