MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Don't be surprised to get an icy reception in Milwaukee's Third Ward these days. For the next few weeks at least, you'll have the chance to experience three ice bars. There'll be one at St. Paul Fish Company, Cafe Benelux, and at The Wicked Hop. This is the second year for this icy event called "A Toast to Winter: MKE Ice Bars." Last year, only St. Paul was the place you could go for this frosty experience.
For another year, a Racine County company called "Art Below Zero" has made this all happen. It was responsible for making and shaping what you'll be seeing. 150 blocks of ice weighing 23 tons will brighten up the corner of Broadway and St. Paul Avenue. Of course this project is weather dependent. The best conditions, according to the experts, are temperatures below freezing with less wind.
Some of the ice bar proceeds will go to various non-profits in town, including the Wisconsin Humane Society and Boys and Girls Club.
