Milwaukee County Zoo Receives a Total of $12.7 Million from Wisconsin Department of Transportation

Milwaukee County Zoo received $12.7 million from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for land and facilities that the department needed for the Zoo Interchange.

Wisconsin Department of Transportation Zoo Interchange Project has required the acquisition of some of the Milwaukee County Zoo’s land and facilities, including a parking lot, as well as service and land areas located south of the I-94 freeway.

The Milwaukee County Zoo originally received an $8.5 million payment in June, 2014.

According Milwaukee County Zoo, there was disagreement about the remaining balance, which resulted in a just compensation appeal through the courts.

That appeal has now been resolved through the joint efforts of Milwaukee County and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.  An additional payment of $4.2 million is to be received by the Zoo.
