Milwaukee County honors political trailblazer Marcia P. Coggs at dedication ceremony
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee County celebrated a Wisconsin political trailblazer Thursday, Feb. 6, with a plaque honoring the first African American woman elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly, Marcia P. Coggs.
Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, along with County Supervisor Priscilla Coggs-Jones and Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Executive Director Shakita LaGrant-McClain were at the ceremony where a dedication plaque was permanently installed in the new Marcia P. Coggs Health and Human Services Center.
After the installation, a ceremony took place to celebrate the new Marcia P. Coggs History wall - a vibrant art installation in the lobby of the building.
Marcia P. Coggs was also the first Black person to sit on the state Legislature's Joint Finance Committee and served on the Health and Human Services Committee during her time in office.
