MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Friday morning, the Department of Public Works joined city officials and students at Ronald Reagan College Preparatory High School to commemorate Arbor Day.
Milwaukee has been recognized as a Tree City USA since 1979, and city officials are continuing to work with community members not only to plant trees but be committed to keeping Milwaukee a beautiful and eco-friendly place.
"Arbor Day is also a day that's rich in symbolism. It isn't just a day, it's an opportunity. It's an opportunity to recommit to renewal, both of ourselves and our community."
The events of the day included tree planting as well as a tree climbing demonstration.
The Department of Public Works will continue to participate in Arbor Day celebrations throughout the day.
