MFD going door-to-door checking on flooding victims

CBS 58

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Fire Department is going door-to-door checking on residents from a list of 1,000 addresses in the city that have had no activity since the flooding Saturday night, Aug. 9.

MFD currently has operational teams canvassing areas most affected by last weekend's historic flooding. The teams are also checking on those haven't made any 211 help inquiries.

The on-duty Battalion Chief told CBS 58 that the teams go out two hours at a time to do quick door knocks in the most impacted flood areas, around the northwest and southwest side of the city, to see if properties are vacant or if residents are safe or need assistance.

MFD started this plan late Saturday evening, Aug. 9, and came up with a more organized plan on Monday. Including providing shuttle transportation for those who need it.

MFD says they are not forcing themselves into anyone's home and are working with other agencies if they need to call them to assist, depending on the situation.
