MFD: 4 total fires over the course of 9 hours

CBS 58

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- According to the Milwaukee Fire Department Chief Aaron Lipski, there have been a total of four fires over the course of 9 hours on Sunday, April 14.

One fire near 8th and Arthur killed one and injured a fire fighter.

Not long after that fire, there was another house fire on the city's north side.

It happened this morning on Hadley and 41st.

Chief Lipski said a firefighter suffered minor burn injuries but is expected to be okay.

No other details on if there were any other injuries of what may have caused the fire.

Then, this afternoon, another fire broke out at a home near 2nd and Concordia. The fire department was on scene.

CBS 58 is waiting on updates if there were any injuries, and on what caused the fire.

Those fires come as the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is asking residents to avoid outdoor burning, because of the elevated fire danger across the state.

Officials say the forecast suggested another active fire day.

Fire danger was reported to be "high" for much of southeastern Wisconsin.

Here are some safety tips from the DNR:

  • Avoid outdoor burning until conditions improve.
  • Operate equipment (chainsaws, off-road vehicles, lawnmowers, etc.) early in the morning or late in the day to avoid sparks at peak burn hours.
  • Secure dragging trailer chains.
  • Report fires early and call 911.
