Man charged with five counts of reckless driving after striking pine tree

A man has been charged with five counts of reckless driving causing great bodily harm and five counts of intoxicated use of a vehicle after striking a pine tree and injuring five passengers in Racine on June 20.

Roland Blade was driving between 85-90 mph on June 20 down Main Street in Racine when he lost control and struck a pine tree. There were six occupants in the Mercury Mountaineer.

When officers arrived on the scene three men were lying outside the vehicle complaining of pain.

A woman was trapped in the engine compartment of the vehicle. Her upper body was trapped under the hood, while her lower body was through the windshield and in the passenger compartment. She was screaming, \"Help me! I don't want to die! I can't breathe! It's hot!\"

Blade had been drinking at Kenny's Bar prior to the accident. One of the individuals told Blade he shouldn't drive.

Evidentiary blood draw was taken of Blade but was not released in the criminal complaint.
