MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Autism spectrum disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition that can involve repetitive behaviors, restricted interests and challenges with social interaction and communication.
Judy Cohen of Lakeside Educational Services joined us on Wednesday, Sept. 10 to talk about strategies for families. She emphasized the importance of early intervention, ongoing communication with teachers and awareness of sensory triggers that may affect learning and behavior.
The Centers for Disease Control and Autism Speaks also report 1 in 45 adults live with the diagnosis. In Wisconsin, more than 15,000 students were identified with autism during the 2022-2023 school year, representing 1.8% of total public school enrollment, according to Cohen.
