‘Hatched Baby' statue finds home on La Crosse City Hall lawn

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) - A gift to La Crosse from its German sister city has settled into its new home.

The 'Hatched Baby' statue was installed this morning on the south lawn of La Crosse's City Hall.

The 9-foot tall sculpture, which was loaned to us by an artist in Freidberg, Germany, shows a baby with blue skin coming out of an egg. The 'Hatched Baby' is being displayed with a plaque explaining the story of it and other Blue Baby statues the author has created.

City officials say it was only supposed to be stored until being sent back to Germany, but they decided to put it on display for people to enjoy.

"There's a lot of different things about art that people do like, don't like, and as long as it inspires conversation then maybe it'll inspire somebody to do something like it or something on that order,” said La Crosse Area German Relations Association Treasurer Todd Bye.

The 'Hatched Baby' came to La Crosse in June of last year.
