Hank the Ballpark Pup wins Dog of the Year

The stray who wandered into Brewers spring training camp and won the hearts of Brewers fans everywhere was selected Dog of the Year.

The official award announced Thursday night during a telecast on the CW.

Hank's affable demeanor made him a favorite among visitors to Miller Park. He often showed a gentle, friendly nature when posing for pictures or giving kisses to anyone who would come up for a photo.

Now in the care of the family of a team executive, Hank has come a long way from his skinny and matted conditions when he first appeared in Maryvale, Arizona during spring training.

He's now a heavier and fluffier pup, who's story is the subject of a book.

The Brewers team has also had Hank serve as an ambassador to raise awareness for the need of pet adoption.

Hank was nominated along with several other dogs who had overcome great odds in their own right.

Voting was taken online until Friday.

Hank and his family had to keep the vote totals under wraps having pre-recorded the awards show days in advance of the Thursday broadcast.

But now the whole world knows that Hank is the Dog of the Year.
