Governor Scott Walker and Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Daniel Zimmerman made a stop at Port Washington's Vines to Cellars, Tuesday morning to kick off a new program.
Its goal is to support and highlight small businesses run by veterans.
Vines To Cellars owners James & CJ Wirsching-Neuser were the first recipients of the program. They received a certificate and decal stating they are a veteran owned business.
Walker said there are about 65,000 veteran-owned businesses across the state and the program aims to benefit them.
"One, we want to encourage more of our veterans to start their own businesses. But secondly, we want to make sure every veteran, whether they start a business or not, is gainfully employed," Gov. Walker said.
The Wirsching-Neuser's believe this program will help bring the community closer together. They are also it will have a similar effect to the "Made in Wisconsin" initiative.
In total, 6 businesses received certificates and decals in Port Washington. Walker and Zimmerman are making 3 other stops throughout the state today.
