GREENDALE (CBS 58) -- A local fire department is lending a hand to one of its own.
Back in February, Greendale Fire Lieutenant Mike Schmitt was called to a house fire that happened to be his own.
The fire destroyed Schmitt's Muskego home on Valentine's Day. His family lost everything.
Tonight, on March 25, his fellow firefighters organized a benefit on Schmitt's behalf at a Greendale bowling alley.
He tells us he's been overwhelmed by the support.
"The support has been exceptional. In the current environment of the world, it's good to see people stepping up the way they are. So, it's been above and beyond what I was prepared to accept," said Greendale Fire Lieutenant Mike Schmitt.
Schmitt tells us he and his family are physically ok after the fire.
If you'd like to contribute to the fundraiser, we have a link to it right here.
