MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A former Milwaukee County supervisor has pleaded guilty to forging election signatures.
Peggy West is accused of illegally gathering signatures for her nomination papers in the spring election. The District Attorney said West had enough valid signatures to be on the ballot.
West's attorney said West forged her daughter's signature who was about to give birth.
"She cut corners. She acted cavalier about it, but it was never her intention to defraud anybody," said West's attorney Michael Maistelman. "It's the law. We have to follow the law. Her daughter simply could have signed everything but because of her pregnancy, she wasn't around at the time Peggy needed the signatures."
West will be sentenced on August 28.
