Food recalls on the rise in Wisconsin
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Food recalls here in Wisconsin are on the rise in 2022, compared to previous years.
The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says it mostly happens with smaller companies.
The issues could range from items on the shelves having a product not listed as an ingredient within a food to not telling DATCP about a change in where the food preparation is taking place.
Even a change in a business's hours of operations could spark a recall.
Joseph Meyer, DATCP Administrator offered insight, saying, "We have an agreement with each establishment. They sign off what hours they are going to operate and we are basically committing to be able to inspect that establishment during those hours."
Officials recommend disposing of any items that DATCP warns against, and making sure the surfaces touched by the aforementioned items are disinfected.
