Fiber outage affects 911 service in areas of Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, WI (CBS 58) -- Charter Communications is experiencing a fiber optic outage on the south side of Milwaukee which is affecting 911 service in parts of the city.    According to the Milwaukee Police Department, the Communications Division was contacted by the cable company and told that subscribers in an area south of West Forest Home Avenue cannot access 911, but Charter could not provide definitive boundaries of the affected area.   According to Charter’s website, the issues began around 8:40 AM Sunday.  The cable company did not have an estimated time when service would be restored, but said it would notify MPD when the 911 service was restored to the affected area.  In the meantime, the Milwaukee Police Department recommends that cable customers south of Forest Home Avenue contact Charter Communications to ensure their 911 services are working.
