Emu recovering after being shot by Waushara County Deputy

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- An emu is recovering in central Wisconsin after a strange encounter.

The emu is getting some much needed rest and relaxation after being shot by a Waushara County Deputy.

A friend of the emu's owner asked the deputy to shoot it after it got out of its holding area.

Wildlife experts then rushed in to help nurse the emu back to health.

The emu is now being held at SonnyBoy Animal Sanctuary in central Wisconsin.

Donations are being accepted to help pay for his treatment and medicine.
