MEQUON (CBS 58)--Chances are you or someone you know owns a Beastie. These make-believe fiberglass animals have been around for 60 years and can be found in people’s yards or in their homes not only in the Milwaukee area but the entire world. In fact, there are more than a dozen of these sculptures in various New Zealand parks. The artist, 81-year old Dennis Pearson, currently lives in Jefferson. I asked him what it takes to come up with his creations, and he says they are a blessing from a higher power. He says children relate to them because they really stimulate one's imagination.
This Saturday, April 3rd, a “Beastie” yard sale will be happening in Mequon. It goes from 10 am until 2 pm at 9702 North Cedarburg Road. Keep in mind these visual creations are hard to buy online, sight unseen. You have to go through the artist’s rep first to purchase one. Her name is Beth LaFond, and her email address is [email protected]. You can follow Dennis Pearson's work on Facebook by searching "Dennis Pearson Beasties." He does have his own website. Click here to see it.
